Timing of treatment

Some orthodontic problems need to be treated as young as 7 to 8 years of age as this is when the adult incisors and first molars should have come through.  Most comprehensive orthodontic treatment is not started until most, or all, of the adult teeth have come through at about 12 years of age.

However, some treatment modalities will only work if the patient is still growing while the treatment is proceeding so we would advise seeking an opinion before 12 years of age and not waiting for all the adult teeth to come through.

If your child is not ready to commence treatment Susan will continue to review the tooth and bite development at recall appointments until a decision can be made about whether or not to undertake treatment.

There is no charge for the recall appointments unless x-rays are required. These appointments can be very beneficial to you as in some cases early diagnosis of a problem can prevent complex treatment being required later.
