Plates are used for correcting the more simple orthodontic problems and are often, though not exclusively, used in younger patients (7 – 9 years).
These appliances feel bulky and affect speech when they are first fitted but after a few days the patient gets used to the appliance and in most cases experiences few problems.
We show you how to fit and remove the plate and make sure the patient is comfortable doing this themselves before they leave the clinic.
You will also be given instructions on how to take care of the appliance and keep your mouth and the appliance clean.
Orthodontic treatment with plates usually only causes discomfort or mild pain and in most cases paracetamol is not required.
